three tanka

she asks me
which t shirt I prefer
swirls or stripes …
I admire her
lightness of being

when I pass him
on the mall escalator
I return his bright smile …
a warm spring breeze
teases my hair into distemper

the pretty pink ballerina
has a melt down
on the music box …
too sweet a trinket
for a tomboy such as me
