In this patch of Delta, grapes and blackberries
Loop through fig trees. Everything ripens
At once by the river; light races
To feed each thrush, jay, finch & fox.
On land where a farm was.
Oh, wonderful wilding.
Alexa Mergen lives on a boat in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. She grew up in Washington, D.C. and has also lived in cities and small towns in California, Michigan, Nevada and West Virginia.
